Orienting Hanoi city towards the Red River will catalyze the regeneration of green space throughout the city. This project proposes a network of parks and green corridors that will return Hanoi to a “sponge city,” reconnecting to its natural heritage and also establishing greater flooding and climate resilience for the future.
The park system combines green corridors and existing green parks to create an accessible network that connects the entire city. The Red River - long hidden behind massive dikes as the “back” and outer limit of the city - now becomes its vibrant heart.
The project includes a diversity of landscape types that are resilient to flooding and provide ecological infrastructure to slow down, retain, and clean polluted water as the Red River flows through the site. Along the riverbank will be constructed wetland terraces that receive the most pollution from urban neighborhoods.
